If you are on this page reading this review, I’m assuming you don’t need it to be explained how fantastic a film “The General” is. Truly, it’s one of the best films ever made, and this DVD release does not disappoint. The film has never looked so gorgeous as it does on this DVD. The image is very sharp and ‘jitter’ free. The disc offers three musical scores, all of which are fantastic. Disc 2 (bonus Features) feels a bit empty, but the ‘introduction’ filmed by Orson Wells is a really fantastic tribute to Buster and makes up for a bit of the emptiness. Everything else on disc 2 is neat, but I wish there was more there. All in all this two-disc Kino edition of The General is the best the film has looked in years (probably since its release) and is a must have item for all Buster Keaton fans (if just for the three musical scores and fantastic print.)
